Year 5 - Rowling Class

Welcome to Rowling's class page!

(Year 5 2021 - 2022)

Mr Eadie

year5@linacreprimary.net

Hello and welcome to Rowling Class. My name is Mr Eadie and this is my first year at this wonderful school! A little bit about me: I have two young children who I love spending time with. I also enjoy going on holiday (when I can), and I love football and reading  :)

Throughout the year I will upload lots of work, showcasing activities that we participate in. We ask that you please check your child's book bag every night to ensure that you are receiving all the information that we send home. Additional information can also be found here or alternatively feel free to see me at the end of the day.

Reading

Please aim to read with your child at least 3 times a week. It will really help them to progress in all curriculum areas. In their book bags, children bring home a staged reading book to share with you. Please remember to make sure reading is an enjoyable experience and record any reading whatsoever in their reading diary. Sharing books is a fantastic way to develop good communication and language skills also. Talking about books further develops their comprehension.

Our class author this year is JK Rowling and I look forward to sharing some of her stories throughout the year!

Homework

Children will receive spellings each Friday and a test will be set for the following Friday. For their weekly maths homework, children should log in to TTRockstars and DoodleMaths.

Homework projects will be set half termly and given out the first week of new half term to be completed over the 6 weeks. This half terms project is based on the Benin Kingdom! Please hand your projects in on Wednesday 20th October, your child can then present them to their class, followed by prizes to be won.

P.E

During the autumn term, P.E will take place on Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning.

Our P.E kit includes the following:

  • White polo shirt
  • Navy blue shorts
  • Black pumps

During the colder months children can also wear the following:

  • Dark tracksuit bottoms
  • School jumper

Please place PE kits in a PE bag. These are then left in school and sent home half-termly in order to be cleaned and returned. Thank you.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to come and see me at the end of the day.

Friday 15th October - Exploring our collage making techniques in Art

Thursday 21st October - Creating our own gears in our Science lesson

Thursday 4th November 2021 - Kingsley & Co Bookshop Trip

Year 5 had such a FANTASTIC time at Kingsley & Co Bookshop! We were able to choose our own book to take home with us and even had a wonderful talk with author Daniel Riding! Thank you so much for having us - we loved it!!

Friday 12th November 2021 - Papier Mache Planets

Year 5 began the (messy) job of creating our own planets today, using a balloon, newspaper and a lot of glue! We had great fun putting it all together but now we have to leave them to dry and begin to paint them next week!

Wednesday 24th November 2021 - Roald Dahl Taster Day

Year 5 had a WONDERFUL time at a Roald Dahl Taster Day at King's Leadership Academy Hawthornes. We had lots of fun, took part in creative activities and learned plenty of interesting information about Roald Dahl!
