Please check back regularly for class updates throughout the term and any important letters :)

Elf School

Every Friday during December, Year 5 are taking part in 'Elf School'. Here we will take part in a variety of Christmas activities, listen to Christmas music and watch some Christmas films. To get even more into the festive spirit, children got the chance to also dress up in their Christmassy attire. Look at the fun we had!

Illuminated Letters

During Anglo-Saxon times illuminated letters used to be present at the start of a page or paragraph of an important document. It was always enlarged and in colour with gold applied in areas, while the rest of the text remained black. The images used to enhance the letters included animals, flowers, plants and mythological creatures.

Y5 designed their own illuminated letters using a letter of their choice. We really enjoyed taking inspiration from different artefacts and other children’s designs.

18.9.20

Wow! What a start to the first two weeks back. We are so impressed with how well the children have managed to get back to our 'new normal' at Linacre.  A huge thank you to all our Y5 parents/carers from myself and Mrs McCann, for all your co-operation, patience and understanding during these times. The children have looked super smart in all their fresh uniforms and we cannot believe how much they've grown over the spring and summer! It has been so lovely to welcome everybody back and we are very much looking forward to the next few weeks.

Reading books are still getting sent home.  Please return the books only when they need changing - they will need to be quarantined before going back into the reading scheme.  Reading records do need to be sent in on a daily basis so that we can keep count of home reads and record children's reading in school.  Please remember, children need to be reading at the very least 3 times a week - daily is ideal if possible.

Please remember to send a named bottle of water in each day.

Homework

Children will get spelling homework every Friday which can be viewed on Google Classroom. It will need to be completed by the following Friday. A homework project will be sent home linked to the class topic, please remember to look out for the return date. Minion tickets and prizes will be awarded to the top 3!

During these unprecedented times, it is really important to look after businesses in our local community. The Plaza in Crosby is one of those precious gems that lots of us have fond memories of. Therefore, Year 5 have decided to support The Plaza by donating money and entering their art competition. These are some of the entries. What fabulous artists we have in Year 5!

Homework Projects

Check out Y5's Brazilian home projects. The children were asked to create a piece of artwork inspired by Romero Britto, design and make a sculpture of the famous landmark in Brazil - 'Christ the Redeemer', make some carnival inspired headdresses and write a biography on a famous Brazilian of their choice. We have so many creative children in our class, wow!

Year 5 Anglo-Saxon Projects

The children were asked to write a biography about Alfred the Great, sketch images of Anglo-Saxon armour and weaponry, create a graphic novel linked to our class text 'Beowulf' and design and create an Anglo-Saxon helmet ready for war! Look at our latest, amazing projects below:
