Donaldson Class (Reception - 2021/22)

Mrs Martin

Hello and welcome to Donaldson Class. My name is Mrs Martin and myself and all the staff in Reception look forward to sharing our fantastic experiences with you. I have worked at Linacre Primary School for over 20 years now and I know that you will enjoy your time here, as much as I have done. We will get to know each other very well over the year and do lots of exciting things. To tell you a little bit about myself - I have two children of my own, who I love spending time with - going on day trips and having fun. I enjoy spending time with all of my family and friends and like going out for meals. My favourite colour is green and my favourite subject at school was English - I love reading!

Throughout the year we will upload lots of work, showcasing all of the lovely activities that we participate in. We ask that you please check your child's book bag every night to ensure that you are receiving all the information that we send home. Additional information can also be found here or alternatively feel free to pop in and see a member of staff.

Reading

Please try to read every night with your child. It will really help them to progress in all curriculum areas. Children will shortly bring home a staged reading book to share with you as well as a Read, Write, Inc (RWI) text, which they will be familiar with and will be able to talk about at length. Please remember to make sure reading is an enjoyable experience and record any reading whatsoever in their reading record. Sharing books is a fantastic way to develop good communication and language skills also.

Our class author this year is Julia Donaldson, therefore we will share lots of her texts, such as The Gruffalo, A Squash and a Squeeze, Room on a Broom, The Smartest Giant in Town (Mrs. Martin's favourite!) as well as many more.

Homework

In order to help further develop language and communication skills, Reception children will receive 'Talk, Talk' project based homework on a weekly basis, as well as their nightly reading. Please try to participate in this with your children, as this will give them the confidence and ability to share their ideas in school. Each week we will complete a Circle Time, sharing the exciting things they have discussed and experienced at home. A copy of this 'Talk, Talk' homework will be sent home with your child and will also be uploaded further down this page, for you to refer to. Each week children will be sent home with sounds to reinforce as well as number formation and counting activities. We ask that you support your child in completing these activities and encourage them on a daily basis.

P.E

P.E will take place on a Monday and a Tuesday.

Our P.E kit includes the following:

  • White polo shirt
  • Navy blue shorts
  • Black pumps

Please place PE kits in the PE bags provided, at the start of the year and leave them in school. They will be sent home half termly in order to be cleaned and returned. Thank you.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to come and see me at the end of the day.

Welcome to our fantastic, newly refurbished Reception classroom!

We are extremely lucky to have these new facilities to work in and the children have thoroughly enjoyed settling into and finding their way around our new environment. The children have been learning how to look after the resources and value all that they have - they have tidied up exceptionally well and are proud to be part of our Reception class!

Please keep visiting our website to see regular updates.
