Reception -Donaldson Class

Please log onto the 'Oxford Owl at Home' website and click the 'Kids' section. There are lots of interactive activities linked to phonics, reading, times tables, number bonds and many more, to help support you at home whilst schools are closed.

In the early years we love doing dough disco!!! Dough disco is a fun activity which combines the use of playdough with a series of hand and finger exercies designed to improve fine muscle control. Shonette Bason is the lady who created this and she is doing a live dough disco everyday on youtube at 9.30 am. You will need to subscribe to Spread The Happiness tv channel on youtube to view this. Whilst school is closed please have a go at doing this at home, it is something all the family can do together and is so much fun!!

If you don't have playdough at home there is a simple recipe on the website funlearningforkids.com

Suggested Timetable/Plan for your child.

In the event that school is closed for a longer period of time, there are weekly packs included below.  Please use the green project book that was sent home to complete.

If you are having to work from home please use these three documents to help you find useful activities to complete. There are plenty of useful websites listed and many more are also offering access during this time. Please try to be as creative as possible and remember to design a front cover, to get you started. Use your Purple Mash logins to receive frequent updates and locate any additional work which may be posted.

As well as doing your schoolwork it is really important to look after your mental wellbeing too. https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga/featured is a great site to practise yoga and don't forget mindful breathing from class dojo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svQGpHjmEWM

Wow! What an exiting afternoon we had.........Snack with Santa was amazing! We were all so excited. Donaldson Class wrote their Christmas wishes on a special tag and placed them on the tree before enjoying cookies and a drink with Father Christmas.

We had a very special visit from Year 3 children today. They wanted to measure parts of our body for a Scientific Investigation that they were carrying out.

Anti Bullying Week 2019. Donaldson Class thoroughly enjoyed wearing their 'odd socks' on Tuesday to show that we say 'no' to bullying here at Linacre! We talked lots about everybody being different, yet everybody being special. The phrase to remember for this years Anti Bullying campaign is - "We can start change."

Black History Week in Donaldson Class. This week we have shared the story 'Handa's Surprise' by Eileen Browne. The children have talked about Africa being a hot country. We looked at the different animals and fruit within the story and made a fruit salad using some of the fruits we identified. The children thoroughly enjoyed tasting their creation! They can now name lots of fruits that they hadn't previously tasted

National Poetry Day. Donaldson Class enjoyed sharing poems together. Our favourite poem was one called 'Higglety Pigglety, Pop!'

Donaldson Class (Reception - 2019/20)

Mrs Martin

Hello and welcome to Donaldson Class. Myself and all the staff in Reception look forward to sharing our fantastic experiences with you. We will upload lots of work, showcasing all of the lovely activities that we participate in. We ask that you please check your child's book bag every night to ensure that you are receiving all the information that we send home. Additional information can also be found here or alternatively feel free to pop in and see a member of staff.

Autumn 1 Topic

All About Me.

During the first half term our topic will be - All About Me. Reception children will settle into their new environment and become more and more familiar with the setting as time moves on, making new friends and learning new routines. This is a busy time for the children and it may take a good few weeks for them to feel confident. The children will make lots of new friends and begin to build lifelong relationships. We will learn all about families, celebrations and homes and will begin to think about how everybody is different, yet still special.

Reading

Please try to read every night with your child. It will really help them to progress in all curriculum areas. Children will shortly bring home a staged reading book to share with you as well as a RWI text, which they will be familiar with and be able to talk about at length. Please remember to make sure reading is an enjoyable experience and record any reading whatsoever in their reading record.

Our class author this year is Julia Donaldson, therefore we are currently sharing lots of her texts, such as The Gruffalo, A Squash and a Squeeze, Room on a Broom, The Smartest Giant in Town (Mrs. Martin's favourite!) as well as many more.

Homework

In order to help further develop language and communication skills, Reception children will receive 'Talk' homework on a weekly basis, as well as their nightly reading. Please try to participate in this with your children, as this will give them the confidence and ability to share their ideas in school. Each week we will complete a Circle Time, sharing the exciting things they have discussed and experienced at home. A copy of this 'Talk' homework will be sent home with your child and will also be uploaded further down this page, for you to refer to. Reception children will also be given a login for our 'Mathletics.' This is a fantastic program used to help support Mathematics skills. Children can use his as and when to help develop their own skills and I am sure they will enjoy the interactive games it has to offer.

Welcome to our fantastic, newly refurbished Reception classroom!

We are extremely lucky to have these new facilities to work in and the children have thoroughly enjoyed settling into and finding their way around our new environment. The children have been learning how to look after the resources and value all that they have - they have tidied up exceptionally well and are proud to be part of our Reception class.

Please keep visiting our website to see regular updates.
