Nursery 2018 - 2019
Early Years Curriculum
In our Foundation Stage Unit (FSU) at Linacre Primary we provide an environment that is safe, secure and welcoming. Your child will encounter many exciting and interesting activities. Play is at the heart of the Early Years curriculum. Well-provisioned and managed play provides a wealth of opportunity for the child to develop and enhance their skills, knowledge and understanding.
The curriculum we follow is devised from a combination of topics that we know excite children’s imaginations and children’s interests. The Early Years Stage is a distinct and vital stage of education with its own Early Learning Goals.
There are seven areas to cover which provide the children with a balanced curriculum:
Communication and Language
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
We structure our day with a combination of whole class, group and individual activities together with child-initiated play – this takes place both inside and outside.
Our topic this half term is Superheroes. We are reading the story Supertato. We will be designing our own supertato's, talking about what are super powers would be and helping to rescue vegetables from the Evil Pea!!! We will also be taking part in Pancake day and Easter activities.
Our topics this half term are The Little Red Hen, Living Eggs and the farm. We will be reading the Little Red Hen and taking part in lots of activities based around the story. We are also very excited to be getting real eggs, watching them hatch and observing the chicks. The children will also be visited by Acorn Farm and have the opportunity to interact with farm animals.
Our topic this half term is Dear Zoo. We will be engaged in a variety of activities such as reading the story and retelling it using puppets, comparing the sizes of the animals and sorting them from biggest to smallest and talking about our favourite animals and how to look after them.
