Mathematics Curriculum Intent Statement:
Mathematics at Linacre Primary is delivered in a variety of ways in order to ensure that our children have the opportunity to use and apply their knowledge and skills in a range of contexts. The delivery and content of our mathematics teaching is derived from and compliant with the standards of the National Curriculum.
The following outlines the various sections of mathematics teaching for years 1-6:
Morning Mathematics - Monday - Friday, bi-weekly the children begin their day with a twenty minute Arithmetic sesson, which allows them to practice concepts and skills that have previously been taught and learned. This time provides the children to discuss their answers and identify any misconceptions. Frequent Arithmetic assessments form the basis for the content for these sessions.
In Reception and Year 1, pupils use this time to become confident with number formation and simple calculations.
Mathematics Lesson - Linacre Primary School follows a whole school long term mathematics plan which is then broken down into medium term and weekly planning. The mathematics session includes opportunities to practice and use new concepts in an engaging way and by using cross-curricular links whenever possible. Linacre follows the White Rose Mathematics Scheme which enables the children to be fluent with their Mathematics, along with solving Mathematical problems.
Mental Skills - At Linacre Primary School, we have identified the importance of rapid recall of Mental Mathematics in order to fully embed number facts, counting, times tables and a range of other mental recall opportunities. Pupils have frequent opportunities to recall multiplication facts, including Times Table Rockstars.
