Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed their bagels this morning. It was the start of our 'Free Breakfast Bagels' for all children at Linacre. We all have a full stomach and we are now ready for our daily learning - and challenges!

Year One Science. We have been planting cress seeds today and we plan to watch and observe as they grow, filling in our 'seed diary' to show what we discover. The children know that for their seeds to grow well they will need lots of sunlight and water. After lots of discussion we decided to keep them on the window ledge rather than in a dark cupboard!

Chester Zoo Project. Year 1 began our Chester Zoo Project today. We all had a fabulous time learning all about the rainforest and palm oil. The children will be able to tell you all about the different types of food containing palm oil.

Homework

Children will get homework on Friday and have a week to complete it. 

 

Reading 

Please try to read each night with your child. It will really help them to progress in all curriculum areas.

 

P.E/Swimming 

P.E will take place on a Monday and Wednesday. 


Our P.E kit includes the following:

  • White polo shirt
  • Navy blue shorts
  • Black pumps 

​During the colder months children can also wear the following:

  • Dark tracksuit bottoms 
  • School jumper  

 

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to come and see me at the end of the day!

 

 

News Items
This term we will be reading books by the author Oliver Jeffers and reading the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.
Green Week
During Green Week Year 1 thought carefully about how we recycle different materials and how we need to use the correct bins. We read a story about the adventures of a plastic bottle and how it was recycled and reused as something else.

Spanish

Year 1 were lucky enough to have a Spanish lesson. We sang songs in Spanish and learnt some colours and numbers. We enjoyed fishing for the correct colour and splatting colours too. We can also say 'hello' and 'goodbye' in spanish.

Jeans for Genes Day

Year 1 have learnt all about Max, a special little boy with a genetic disorder. We talked about how his genes made him different - Max didn't have much hair, he could not sweat and didn't have any teeth.

Author Visit

Year 1, 2 and 3 had a visit from Sally- Anne Tapia-Bowes on Friday afternoon. All of the children enjoyed listening to her read some of her own stories as well as stories by other authors.

Some of Year 1 represented our school at an Athletics Competition on Tuesday 6th November. We all had a great time and took part with fantastic team spirit. The children were extremely good ambassadors for Linacre and were a pleasure to take. Well done, Year 1!

Year 1 became doctors this morning and had to make 'unwell sentences' better again. We had lots of fun spotting the errors and then correcting them. We will be doing lots more of this throughout the week.

Year 1 were very lucky to have trainee teachers from Edge Hill University come into class and share some lovely stories with them, this afternoon. We listened to the stories and completed some follow up activities.

Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at Bootle Library on Wednesday 5th December. The children shared books with adults and enjoyed this experience. We hope to be able to visit again in the new year. Thanks for having us, Bootle Library!
