Well.....here it is, Year 1 singing and signing along to 'Hold Back the River' by James Bay. The chidren have worked extremely hard and made a fantastic effort. Well done, Year 1!
Deaf Awareness Week - Wednesday 8th May 2019.
Year 1 have been learning how to sing and sign to the song 'Hold Back The River' by James Bay. Please come back and visit our class page again towards the end of the week and you will be able to see a video of us! We can't wait to show you all the different signs we know.
Summer 1 Homework. How many Do-Jo's will you be able to earn?
Year 1 have had a lovely time learning how to sketch this afternoon. We have looked closely at illustrations in Aaron Becker's book 'Return' and have tried to copy some of them. The children tried hard to add lots of detail, making their illustrations as interesting as possible.
Year 1 Spring Term Homework. How many Do-Jo's will you be able to earn?
Year 1 have been designing 'Sustainable Palm Oil' posters and identifying all the food that contains 'good palm oil.' Some of the posters are fantastic and can be seen in our class floor book too.
Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed their bagels this morning. It was the start of our 'Free Breakfast Bagels' for all children at Linacre. We all have a full stomach and we are now ready for our daily learning - and challenges!
Year One Science. We have been planting cress seeds today and we plan to watch and observe as they grow, filling in our 'seed diary' to show what we discover. The children know that for their seeds to grow well they will need lots of sunlight and water. After lots of discussion we decided to keep them on the window ledge rather than in a dark cupboard!
Science. Year 1 have been learning all about flowers and have looked closely at different types. The children can name the four main parts. Look at how well we have labelled the roots, the stems, the leaves and the petals.
Chester Zoo Project. Year 1 began our Chester Zoo Project today. We all had a fabulous time learning all about the rainforest and palm oil. The children will be able to tell you all about the different types of food containing palm oil.

Autumn 1 Topic
Children will get homework on Friday and have a week to complete it.
Please try to read each night with your child. It will really help them to progress in all curriculum areas.
P.E will take place on a Monday and Wednesday.

During Green Week Year 1 thought carefully about how we recycle different materials and how we need to use the correct bins. We read a story about the adventures of a plastic bottle and how it was recycled and reused as something else.
Year 1 were lucky enough to have a Spanish lesson. We sang songs in Spanish and learnt some colours and numbers. We enjoyed fishing for the correct colour and splatting colours too. We can also say 'hello' and 'goodbye' in spanish.
Jeans for Genes Day
Year 1 have learnt all about Max, a special little boy with a genetic disorder. We talked about how his genes made him different - Max didn't have much hair, he could not sweat and didn't have any teeth.

Year 1, 2 and 3 had a visit from Sally- Anne Tapia-Bowes on Friday afternoon. All of the children enjoyed listening to her read some of her own stories as well as stories by other authors.
Year 1 are learning how to add and subtract using the 'Part Whole Method.' Here are some photographs showing the children working extremely hard and writing calculations to match their models.
Year 1 love reading to our 'Reading Teddies.' We share picture books and stories with the teddies, including books by our class author Oliver Jeffers.

Healthy Eating Workshop
Year 1 enjoyed sharing and playing some of our new games, to help us learn our alphabet and sounds and to develop our basic number skills.
Some of Year 1 represented our school at an Athletics Competition on Tuesday 6th November. We all had a great time and took part with fantastic team spirit. The children were extremely good ambassadors for Linacre and were a pleasure to take. Well done, Year 1!
Year 1 became doctors this morning and had to make 'unwell sentences' better again. We had lots of fun spotting the errors and then correcting them. We will be doing lots more of this throughout the week.
Year 1 were very lucky to have trainee teachers from Edge Hill University come into class and share some lovely stories with them, this afternoon. We listened to the stories and completed some follow up activities.

Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at Bootle Library on Wednesday 5th December. The children shared books with adults and enjoyed this experience. We hope to be able to visit again in the new year. Thanks for having us, Bootle Library!
